Mmm… Ratatouille

Ratatouille is a popular french dish. Most of you might be familiar with this dish due to the Disney movie made about it, Ratatouille. A simple ratatouille has eggplant, zucchini, peppers, onions, and tomatoes along with a bunch of different spices. My mom, just like many other french parents, used to make this dish often when I was a kid. It is a meal to eat when it’s cold outside and you want to eat something healthy. I never really liked it because well, I was a kid and I wasn’t the biggest fan of vegetables but now I LOVE it.

I fell in love with this when I went to visit some friends in the north of France. My friend and I decided to make dinner for the family. We wanted to make something healthy but also something that tasted good. Unfortunately though, being a young adult that just moved out of my parents house where meals were provided, I had no idea what to make. Everything that came to my head had a base of pasta… So I called my mom. She gave me the recipe for Ratatouille which ended up being incredibly easy to make and delicious.

When I got home after break I made an abundance of Ratatouille with a base of quinoa instead of pasta or rice and ate that for lunch and dinner almost every day for a couple of weeks.Though it didn’t quite look as good as it did in the movie, it was delicious and exactly what I needed.

A recipe that is similar to my mom’s is the one on the Real Simple website. Here’s the link https://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/browse-all-recipes/ratatouille ! I definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for something to cook. It’s not hard, it’s delicious and its a classy french dish that you can make for friends and family to impress them! So happy about learning to make this meal and others in France. It’s definitely a perk of living there.
